Racial Harmony Reflections

     Think Back:
-       In what ways have you shown appreciation for the customs and practices of others?
-       In what ways have you shown respect for others from different racial and religious background?

      Learn From It:
-       Why do we need to be respectful in our interactions with others?
-    Why is it important to know the significance of religious and cultural practices of people from different racial background?
-       What did you learn from the lesson?

Do It Better:
-       Suggest new opportunities you can explore to learn more about the customs, practices and religious beliefs of others.
-       As a classmate/ CCA member/ student leader, reflect on how you can promote better inter-racial and inter-religious understanding in school.
-       How will you apply these social situations that you might encounter in future?

  1. I don't make racist comments
I help them in need treat them equally and do not disgrace their religious practices.

Everyone are humans so each of us has equal rights so we should treat them equally.
We should never disgrace their religion by accident.
I learnt that Singapore has different races of people and they should always live happily together.

We should try their religious activities and engage with them
We should have activities that try each other races activities.
I will never disgrace and make fun of other religion and treat them equally

  2. I have shown appreciation for others by experiencing their cultures on service learning trips and stuff.
When I visit them, I do things according to their cultures.

So we can have a healthy relationship and stuff.
So we do not accidentally offend them by going along to their practices.
I learnt that we should all live in harmony by respecting everyone.

    Service learning trips and stuff.
By doing random presentation of respect.
By talking to my neighbours and stuff

  4. Thinking Back:

    - I have shown appreciation for the customs and practices of others, by being interested in their special events for example Deepavali, Ramadan, e.tc. I am interested int hese events as I am intrigued by what they do as their culture during these events. For example, during Ramadan, i was shocked to find out that the Malays could only eat before dawn and after dusk.

    - I have shown respect for the customs and practices of others from different racial and religious background by being aware and not laughing or ridiculing at their culture or their physical appearances when they are around so as to prevent them from feeling embarrassed or enraged that they have been humiliated.

    Learn from it:

    - We need to be respectful in our interactions with others as this will only allow our bonds with others to grow instead of being destroyed due to an unthought act which offended or humiliated them, breaking our ties with them

-It important to know the significance of religious and cultural practices of people from different racial background as this will allow us to understand why others perform certain cultures so that we are prepared and would not ridicule or humiliate them out of laughter.

    - I learnt that we must preserve these ties and order to do so, we must understand one another's culture and encourage one another to perform their own cultures not fearing of being embarrassed.

    Do it better:

-I could probably visit mosques, temples, churches e.t.c to understand how their culture is.

    - We could organise games which consists of teams of equal number of each race/religion in it.

    - When encountering people of different races or religion, I will be polite and respectful towards their race/religion.

-I do not speak ill of my classmates from different races behind their back.
In what ways have you shown respect for others from different racial and religious background?
-I defend them when they are treated badly just because they are from a different race.

    Learn from it:
Why do we need to be respectful in our interactions with others?
-To avoid misunderstandings and to have a healthy relationship with friends from other races.
Why is it important to know the significance of religious and cultural practices of people from different racial background?

-Widen your knowledge about other races and learn the characteristics that they value. We will know what to do around them.

What did you learn from the lesson?
-I learned that for a country to be united, the people need to respect each other despite their differences.

    Do it Better:
Suggest new opportunities you can explore to learn more about the customs, practices and religious beliefs of others.

    -Go to Perenakan Museum.

As a classmate/ CCA member/ student leader, reflect on how you can promote better inter-racial and inter-religious understanding in school.

How will you apply these social situations that you might encounter in future?

-I will try to avoid people who refuse to respect other races. I will do my best to avoid arguing with those kind of people.
